Oreo Cookie Batter Protein Bars

One question which people always ask us vegans is, "where do you get your protein from?" Next time you can tell them from cookie batter! This recipe is a sweet way to gain protein after a workout or on the go.

New vegans are always excited to hear that Oreos are accidentally vegan. I typically add them to any dessert that calls for chocolate to make it extra tasty. With this recipe you can add peanuts, sprinkles, or any other extra ingredients to add your own spin. This is great to make with kids and to pack in a lunch.

½ cup almond butter (or your favorite nut butter) $1.50 ($6 per 16 oz jar)

¼ cup honey $1 ($5 per 16 oz jar)

¼  cup maple syrup (½ cup if not using honey) $0.50 ($6 per 8 fl oz)

1 ¼ cup oat flour $0.75 ($4 per 16 oz bag) ¼ cup cake flour (can use all oat flour) $0.25 ($5 per 32 oz box) ¼ cup coconut flour $0.75 ($4.50 per 16 oz bag) ½ cup vanilla protein powder $1 ($30 per 2.75lb jar) ½ tsp salt <$1/AP 1.5 tsp granulated sweetener of choice <$1/AP 1 tsp brown sugar <$1/AP

1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract <$1/AP ¾ cup almond milk (or your favorite milk substitute) $0.10 ($4 for a 1/2 gallon)

1 cup (about 10) crumbled oreos $0.75 ($2.50 for container)

OPTIONAL: ½ cup vegan chocolate chips


  1. Line a 9x9 baking pan with parchment paper or use non-stick spray to coat the pan

  2. Mix together your dry ingredients (flour, protein powder, brown sugar, sweetener, salt) in a large bowl.

  3. In a small pot, melt together almond butter, honey, syrup, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.

  4. Pour wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Slowly stir the mixture.

  5. Slowly add almond milk into mixture until the mixture turns into a soft dough. You may not use all of the almond milk.

  6. Once a soft dough, fold in the oreo crumbs. 

  7. Place dough into baking pan and press it firmly down, making sure it is even.

  8. Add additional oreos and chocolate chips on top and press them down into the top.

  9. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes or until the mixture is cool and able to be cut.

  10. Cut into small bars and serve. 

  11. Store in the keep in the refrigerator to keep firmness.
